Solid year for Best Actress, but no one captivated me quite the way Aunjanue did in Origin. If you haven't seen this shamefully under-the-radar gem, CHECK. IT. OUT!!!! It's about real life author Isabel Wilkerson's journey writing her book Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents, and it lands on a form of adaptation that allows space for the obstacles and opportunities of adaptation to live in parallel with the lead character's wrestle with the challenges of her sticky area of study. It's a work of genius, and all anchored by Ellis-Taylor's drive and beating heart.
